About Me
My name is Hoi Yin. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist in Cambridge, I offer a safe and confidential space for you to explore what may be on your mind and how these difficulties may be impacting your everyday life.
My academic and professional background is rooted in clinical psychology and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I completed my undergraduate studies in Clinical Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University and went on to train in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Essex.
I have over ten years of experience working in mental health, supporting both young people and adults. Throughout this time, I have developed a strong commitment to learning about and supporting individuals navigating emotional difficulties and life challenges.
You may have seen me through my work with CPSL Mind, where I have facilitated workshops and taken part in an interview promoting wellbeing initiatives such as calm spaces. This work is held separately from my therapeutic practice, as it sits outside the psychodynamic framework that underpins my psychotherapy work.
I am particularly drawn to working with people who have experienced trauma and those facing cultural and identity dilemmas. From a psychodynamic perspective, I am interested in how these experiences are held internally, how they may affect relationships and self-understanding, and how they can be explored and understood within a safe therapeutic relationship.
In my practice, I value autonomy, empowerment, integrity, and compassion. I aim to provide a respectful and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
English is my main working language. I am also fluent in Cantonese and can offer therapy in Cantonese if this feels more comfortable. I come from a British-born Chinese background, which may be helpful for clients who wish to explore cultural identity and experiences within therapy.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
